Day 6 – Travel to Niagara Falls, Canada
It was over a 7 hour drive from Washington DC to Niagara Falls so we set off quite early. We did a couple of stops on route (at a garage and a Dunkin Donut) and made it to our hotel (the Hilton Embassy Suites on the Canadian side) by tea time. We chose the Embassy Suites as it meant we would have a bit more space and we also chose a room over looking the falls.

In the hotel was a TGI Fridays so we headed straight there for tea where Stu & I both had burgers, Tom had a hot dog and Izzy had her standard chicken strips! We then wandered down to the falls.

Visiting the Falls for the first time
It was starting to get late so we stayed out until it was dark so we could see the falls all lit up.

Day 7 – Exploring Niagara Falls
We woke up to a beautiful sunrise and then headed down to breakfast. We were not impressed with the hotel breakfast but did have a table by the window so could sit and watch the waterfall!

We walked back down to the falls and purchased the adventure passes which meant we could take the Hornblower boat cruise to the falls, journey behind the falls, take the white water walk and watch an interactive film called Niagara’s fury. The passes were expensive (almost $200) but we were only visiting for one day.

We spent a bit of time watching people doing the zip line and then queued up for our boat trip. We were given red ponchos to wear so that we didn’t get wet. The boat was absolutely packed but we had a good spot although some people were quite mean and pushy. The boat sailed right next to the falls so we got absolutely soaked from the spray of the water.

Boat trip under the Falls
Next we took a short bus journey along the river to where the White Water Walk started. The walk was quite cool as it was along board walks and we could see all the rapids in the water. Apparently they were ‘grade 6’ rapids – the most extreme. It was also lovely to get away from the crowds.

White Water Walk
We then headed back to the Falls and after a quick lunch of burgers and chips in the Table Rock House Restaurant we went to watch the film where we were given blue ponchos to wear to stay dry.

We then spent ages watching the Hornblower and the Maid in the Mist do their boat tours before heading to our final activity – Journey Behind the Falls. For this we were given yellow ponchos and they were definitely needed for the viewing platform. We also walked through the tunnels in the falls.

Journey Behind the Falls
We ended the day having dinner and watching racoons and black squirrels playing on the grounds as the next day we were headed to Boston.
