North East USA Road Trip (Part 3 Boston)

Day 8 – Travel from Niagara to Rhode Island

After an amazing couple of nights in Niagara it was time to have another road day and head to our next destination – Little Compton in Rhode Island where we were staying for 5 nights. The journey was over 7 hours! We chose this area as it meant we could visit Boston but also Cape Cod and Newport.

Day 9 – Cape Cod

We decided to travel to the furthest point first so headed to Provincetown – right on the end of the Cape. We visited the Pilgrim Monument (which was built to commemorate the first landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims) and climbed to the top where there were beautiful views.

We then started working our way back down the Cape and visited Highlands Lighthouse where we did a short walk and found the Lighthouse!

It was then time for some beach time so we drove a little further down the Cape and found Nauset Beach. There was a huge sign at the entrance informing us that great white sharks lived in the waters and to avoid swimming near seals. We paddled in the water for a bit and saw a seal but no sharks! We also went to find Nauset Lighthouse and the Three Sisters Lighthouses

Day 10 – Salem and Boston

Someone had advised we visit Salem so we thought we should go and have a look. It seemed to take forever to get there due to the grid system on the roads and we were stopped at almost every set of traffic lights. We had a wander round and visited the Witch Museum but after a couple of hours were done. Therefore, we drove into Boston for the afternoon. I was able to get tickets for the Boston Tea Party – which was really good and Tom & Izzy especially enjoyed throwing the tea overboard.

Day 11 – Newport Cliff Walk

After having a few days with lots of driving we decided to stay a bit closer to home and visit Newport. We had seen that there was a cliff walk which went along the coast and passed lots of mansions. We parked by the beach and set off on our walk. The coastline was beautiful and the mansions were enormous! However, it was a really hot day so after an hour or so we headed back to the beach so Tom and Izzy could play in the sea.

Beach time at Easton Beach, Newport

The sea was full of some type of red algae or seaweed. It didn’t do us any harm. We headed back to our house, had tea and then decided to visit our local beach. We arrived for sunset and it was packed with people having picnics etc.

Day 12 – Boston

For our final day in the area we visited Boston. We parked up and began the day by walking part of the Freedom Trail.

We then had a Duck Tour booked which we really enjoyed. It was great to see the sights from the river and we had a really good tour guide who even let Tom drive the duck boat when we were on the water.

We finished the day buying ice-creams outside the aquarium. We didn’t go in as it was really expensive but spent ages watching the seals.

On our way home we stopped off at a Cheesecake factory (our very first visit) and bought takeout cheesecakes. It was an early night as the next day we were returning our hire car and heading into New York!.
