It was Saturday, Stu had the weekend free so we headed off nice and early to Chania which was only a 20 minute drive down the road from our villa in Stalos. We wanted to explore the port & old town and find a nice restaurant for lunch.
Even though we were early, parking was a nightmare – luckily we eventually found a space in a free parking lot not too far from the port.

Arriving in Chania
We began by heading to the lighthouse. Chania Lighthouse was built in 1864 although this replaced the previous lighthouse which dated back to the 1600’s. We needed to walk along the sea walls to reach it and this gave us beautiful views of Chania and the Port.

Making our way to the lighthouse!
Half way along the harbour wall is an old Venetian Building – Agios Nikolaos Redan – which was built in the 1300’s. There was supposed to be a geocache hidden in one of the stones but we couldn’t find it! We carried on to the lighthouse and then back to the town as it was getting extremely hot!

On the harbour walls
We then went for a wander around the old narrow streets of the town. Some of the alleyways were really pretty with flowers growing on the houses.

Chania Old town
It was getting close to lunch time so we found a beautiful restaurant with outdoor seating before it got too busy. I ordered moussaka again, Izzy and Stu both selected pasta dishes and Tom opted for risotto.

All the food was amazing!
We headed home to enjoy the pool – as we got into the car the thermometer said the temperature outside was 42 degrees!
