Crete, Greece – Elafonissi Beach

It was Stu’s final day with us as he was on a late night flight back to London so we decided to do a beach day. We had researched beaches and saw that Elafonissi beach always appeared in lists of ‘top beaches in Crete’. It was a 90 minute drive away so we left quite early as we did not know how busy it would be.

The drive from Stalos to Elafonissi took us through some lovely little villages and when we went through the mountains we saw some mountain goats!

When we arrived it was still quite quiet so we set ourselves up on some sun-loungers – which were really expensive! Elafonissi Beach was beautiful. The water was so clear and it was a great beach for paddling and swimming.

We spent the whole morning at the beach although by lunch time we were ready to go home.

When we got home it was still early so we played in the pool for a bit. Stu’s flight was really late so we decided to go out for dinner. The owners of our villa had recommended a local restaurant in the hills called Leventis Taverna so we decided to try it out. The restaurant had a stunning entrance full of flowers and once inside we were sat outside on a balcony over looking the hills.

Our table for the evening

We didn’t order starters and the manager came out and said we were missing out and recommended some dishes for us. We took him up on the offer and the food was amazing. I then ordered lamb for my main meal and again it was really good. We all said it is probably one of our best dining out experiences.

Unfortunately when we returned home we had to take Stu to the airport but it was the perfect evening for the end of his Greek adventure!
