After having three very busy days visiting Knossos, Chania and Elafonissi we opted to have a day at home. However – there was a small chapel on the waterfront about a 20 minute walk from our villa that I wanted to visit – the Church of Agios Dionysios of Olymbos. Tom said that he would like to come with me so we walked to the church.

We headed back home, made lunch and chilled out and then in the evening wandered into town. At the bottom of our road there was a crazy golf course and it always had lots of people so we thought it would be a fun way to spend an hour or so.

We then found a restaurant where I ordered lamb and both Tom & Izzy opted for chicken and chips! The restaurant gave us some raki – a cretan spirit which we all tried!

Sampling the local raki!
We then wandered along the beach where we were treated to a beautiful sunset.

Sunset on the beach
We then had another villa & beach day but for our final day wanted to venture out again and chose the botanical gardens as they were only a twenty minute drive into the hills. We parked up and followed one of the walking trails around the gardens – what we realised quite early was the trail only went down which meant we would have a tough hike back up to the car at the end!

Once we made it to the bottom of the gardens there was a lake and a small farmyard with peacocks, deer and some other birds.

Some of the animals in the farmyard.
As we headed back up the hill one of the peacocks decided to walk up with us! It was really hot so we were quite grateful when we found a sprinkler system to cool off under.

We enjoyed our time at the gardens. We headed home and as it was our last night on Crete walked back down to the town for tea and enjoyed one final sunset on the beach!
