The Izu Peninsula – Lighthouses, Waterfalls and Wasabi in Rainy Season!

Jogasaki Coast

We only had one full day to explore the Izu Peninsula and rainy season decided it was going to make an appearance! Despite this we set off quite early from the hotel and headed out to the Jogasaki Coast – an area of volcanic coastline with hiking trails, a suspension bridge and a lighthouse.

When we arrived at the car park the rain had started to ease so we set off on a trail to see the lighthouse. However after about 5 minutes it got quite heavy so we sent Stu back to the car to collect the umbrellas we had borrowed from the hotel!

We wandered along the suspension bridge to the lighthouse viewing point before heading back to the car.

Sheltering from the rain!

Kawazu Seven Waterfalls

Our next stop of the day was the seven waterfalls walk at Kawazu. We were able to walk down and see the first few waterfalls and as we followed the path the rain was like a river flowing down the stairs!

When we went to find the trail for the next few waterfalls it was completely flooded and our feet were soaking wet so we decided to give up!

Joren Falls

We then headed to Joren falls – a 25 meter waterfall. By the time we arrived the rain had stopped so we bought some food at the cafe and then set off on the hike down to the waterfall. It was quite a steep path down which was fine but hard work walking back up. There was also a little wasabi farm we could walk through and see the wasabi growing.

Being a tourist!

We decided to head back to the hotel so we could enjoy the pool facilities for the afternoon as the next day we were returning to Tokyo. As we were driving back we passed a field of rice paddy art so we pulled over to take some photos. Despite the weather we really enjoyed our day.
