Pembroke, Wales – A Rainy Weekend at the Beach

Tom & Izzy had broken up for half term and we were keen to go away for a couple of nights so had booked an Airbnb at Freshwater East in Pembroke, Wales. Unfortunately as we got closer to the weekend the weather forecast predicted it was going to be a very cold, windy and rainy Saturday! We left home on the Friday evening and made it to our AirBnB in the pitch black at about 10pm.

On the Saturday morning Stu and I left Tom & Izzy sleeping and went out to explore the area the Airbnb was in. It was situated on a little holiday park about a 1 minute walk from the beach. It was trying to rain and quite windy but we still went for a walk along the beach – which was deserted.

Stackpole Quay and Barafundle Beach

We walked back to the house by which time Tom and Izzy had eaten breakfast and we headed off to Stackpole Quay which was only a ten minute drive away to go for a walk. I had found a walk online which took us along the coast and we would reach Barafundle Beach. It was an easy walk through fields with views of the sea.

The entrance to Barafundle Beach was quite impressive. It was a stone gateway with stunning views of the beach below. Also as the weather was a bit miserable we basically had the beach to ourselves.

Arriving at Barafundle Beach

We went for a lovely stroll along the beach before heading back to the car.

Bosherston Lily Pools

Our next stop of the day was Bosherston Lily Pools. Obviously because it was February there were no lilies out but we still thought it would be a nice place for a walk. There was a huge lake which had a long walkway across it and then we just followed the trail to a viewpoint of the coast.

Broad Haven South Beach

We then made our way to Broad Haven South Beach. At this point Izzy had done enough walking and opted to stay in the car. However Stu, Tom & I walked down the trail to the beach and played on the rocks for a bit. Again, it was another stunning beach and very quiet.

Arriving at Broad Haven South Beach – Tom sprinted down the hill!

Exploring the rocks

We headed back to our AirBnb for lunch where Tom & Izzy decided they wanted to chill out for the rest of the afternoon so Stu and I headed out on our own.

Tenby

We began by visiting Tenby – a town I had visited years ago but had no recollection of it. Both Stu and I commented on how miserable everyone looked – they were probably all fed up with the weather but it didn’t really bother us! We went for another beach walk, saw the lifeboat station and then treated ourselves to ice creams. We also sent pictures of our ice creams to Tom & Izzy to make them jealous!

Manorbier Beach

Our final stop of the day was another beach – Manorbier. There was a short trail to follow to reach the beach and luckily the tide had gone out so we could go for a wander.

By the time we returned home we had walked over 20,000 steps! I was really pleased I had bought a homemade lasagna from home for tea so that we didn’t have to cook! Despite the weather it had been a really good day. We were heading home the next day but planned a stop at Mumbles on route.
