A Long Weekend in Cornwall

I set up this wordpress site about 5 years ago as a way to store our family travel photos and to write about our adventures – mainly so that we would remember them. I did a few posts but never really kept on top of the site and now I have over 30,000 photos on my phone! Therefore, I have decided to go back to the beginning and start again working through all our travels – which feels quite timely as when we first began visiting places with the kids they were only about 6 & 7 years old and Tom is now off to university later this year!

Our first holiday with the kids was a bank holiday weekend in Cornwall. We booked a cottage on ‘Cottages4U’ and I travelled down with the kids from school on Friday night and Stuart went direct from London as he had just come back from a work week in Houston, Texas.

Padstowe and the Camel Trail

The main purpose of the weekend was to cycle the Camel Trail which is a cycle route from Padstowe to Bodmin along a disused railway track. We set off from Padstowe at 11am and it was grey and cloudy but by the time we returned (gone 5pm) there was blue sky and sunshine.

Bedruthan Steps

The following day we headed to Bedruthan Steps for a spot of geo-caching. Again the weather was grey but also very foggy so when we arrived we couldn’t see a thing! The clue for one of the geo-caches was ‘over the edge’ which we didn’t even attempt to find!

The top of Bedruthan Steps in the fog!

We then drove along the coast to Trevose Head Lighthouse before heading home for the night.

The Exe Trail

It was a 3 hour drive home so we decided to stop off and cycle the Exe trail to break up the journey. It is a mainly off-road cycle route and we started at Topsham and cycled along the estuary to Exmouth Beach where we stopped for an ice cream.
