Iceland Ringroad Trip (Reykjavik)

Day 3

As we were in Iceland we thought it was quite important to visit Reykjavik – the capital city. It was a beautiful morning and we parked near to the docks and began by going for a walk along the seafront. The sea was so blue and still and looking into it you could see a huge amount of little jellyfish floating about.

We made it to the Sun Voyager Sculpture and there were some children playing on it so Tom & Izzy joined in. Stu and I knew that there was a geo-cache there so we waited for all the people to leave so that we could locate it.

We then wandered up the hill to Hallgrimskirkja – the cathedral. We went inside and were tempted to climb up the tower but there was a queue and also very expensive.

Next, we headed to the Settlement Museum walking passed a gorgeous duck lake on route. The museum was really good and had loads of interactive displays for the kids to play with.

At this point we were beginning to get a bit bored – we don’t really enjoy cities so headed back to the seafront and then set off home.

Back to the sea!

On the drive home we approached a waterfall which we had seen the previous two days so decided to pull in and take some photos. We thought it was just a random waterfall by the road but there was a proper car park and tourist signs – telling us the waterfall was Urridafoss Falls and that it was Iceland’s largest waterfall by volume! We were able to go for a walk along the river to a viewing point where we took lots of pictures.
