Day 4
After spending the previous day in Reykjavik we were keen to get back out into the countryside so planned a South Coast waterfall day. We decided to drive to the furthest most waterfall first (which was Skogafoss- about an hour away) and then work our way back home.
Skogafoss
Skogafoss is on the Ring-road and is literally a 1 minute walk from the carpark. We walked right up to it and we had to wear our coats as we got soaked from all the water spray.

We climbed the staircase up to the top of the falls where there is a viewing platform and then followed the path along the river (called the Fimmvorduhals Trailhead). The trail runs for about 25km but we only walked for half an hour. We passed quite a few waterfalls on route and at one point oil was seeping out of the mud. The landscape above Skogafoss in absolutely stunning.

Seljalandsfoss and Gljufrabul
We then headed to our next waterfall – Seljalandsfoss which again is right on the ring-road.

There was a path we could take that took us behind the falls which was really good – although we got soaked again!

We then followed the trail for half a kilometer to another waterfall – Gljufrabul which is actually inside a canyon. We were able to use stepping stones in the river to enter the canyon and see the waterfall.

Gluggafoss
The final waterfall we wanted to see was Gluggafoss – mostly because I loved the name! To reach it we had to drive for about 15 minutes very slowly along a track.

This was my favourite of the day as you could climb to the top of the lower falls and the higher falls was inside the rock. We also basically had the place to ourselves so we could take our time doing lots of photography and Tom and Izzy played on the rocks.

We then returned home for an early night as the next day we were taking a boat trip to the Westman Isles
