Eltz Castle, Germany

We had really wanted to visit one of the amazing German castles and Eltz Castle was one of the closest (despite being 2.5 hours away) and most impressive. It also gave Stu the opportunity to drive on the Autobahns!

We arrived at the carpark (which is a bit of a walk from the castle) just before lunch so ate our sandwiches before heading off through the woods.

After about 10 minutes we spotted the castle through the trees!

First sighting of Eltz

To enter the castle grounds we walked across a stone bridge which had lovely views of the forest from it. It was probably a perfect day to visit as the sun was shining and with it being the start of November all the leaves were changing colour on the trees.

We decided that we didn’t actually want to go inside Eltz but it possible to walk around the outer buildings and the court yards.

We then headed into the valley and made our way back through the forest to the car.
