Dubrovnik, Croatia – A day exploring the Old Town and Beaches

After spending an evening in Split we made our way to Dubrovnik. We had booked a beautiful apartment on Air BNB which overlooked the sea – and was within walking distance of the old town. After settling in on the first evening we set off really early the next day to hopefully arrive at the Old Town before it got too busy.

We walked down narrow alleys and it took about 15 minutes to reach the City Entrance. Despite it being only 9.30am the temperature was already approaching 30 degrees and most other people had the same idea as us of arriving early!!!

Making our way towards the Old Town

We paid our 500 Kuna (approx £60) and headed straight up onto the walls. It was very hot and very busy but the views were stunning – the sea is so blue! We watched the Sea Kayak tours in the water – Izzy really wanted to go and join one but unfortunately she is still too young. Not sure the kids particularly enjoyed the walk – we had lots of moaning about the heat (although Stu pointed out last year when we were in Vegas it hit 45 so they had nothing to complain about!)

Exploring the city walls

We got as far as the harbour then came off the walls to go and look at the boats. We then headed into the town to go into the Cathedral – although it was beautiful a tour group came in so we decided to leave as far too many people! We ate our lunch, bought ice creams and then decided we’d had enough of the town (too hot and too busy) so decided to head back home and maybe go out to a beach. We couldn’t face the walk up the hill so picked up a taxi – was £8 well spent!

Old town and harbour

We did a quick google search to find beaches (which you needed to drive to so hopefully there would be less people) and found Pasjaca beach which was about a 40 minute drive away. We arrived and parked up – to reach the beach it was a steep climb down a staircase.

Steep walk down to Pasjaka Beach

Tom and Izzy were straight in the water closely followed by me and Stu. There were quite strong waves which made it rather fun bobbing up and down in the sea. The beach is right under a cliff face so the scenery is quite dramatic. We probably spent about 2 hours here but the climb back up to the car was not fun!

Beach Time!

We headed back home and spent the evening sat on the balcony watching the cruise ships sail out of port, planes coming in to land and the sunset!
