Chamonix, France – Lots of Cable Cars, chairlifts and Luges

Gondola Lift to Plan Praz

Keen to make the most of our Chamonix Lift Passes we thought we’d may as well squeeze as many cable cars into a day as possible – especially as the weather was so beautiful. So the first ride of the day was the gondola lift from Chamonix to Plan Praz (2000m)

Gondola Lifts to Plan Praz

The four of us had a lift to ourselves and it was only a short ride up the mountain. There is also a walking trail to take you up so it was fun watching the hikers (and hill runners) ascending the path.

Plan Praz was probably my favourite spot in Chamonix. It seems to be a good place for Paragliding and we spent ages just watching them run off the mountain and set off into the air.

Cable Car to Le Brevent

To reach Le Brevent (2,525m) it is then necessary to take a secondary cable car – which for me looked a bit scary as it seems to cross the valley and there is a huge drop below. Needless to say we did it – although I had my eyes closed most of the time!

From the top of Le Brevent the views are Spectacular! It was clear so we could see Mont Blanc across the valley. We also tried to find a geo-cache but unfortunately were unsuccessful. And it was another day which required us eating our packed lunch at 9.30am.

Les Bossons

Next up was a visit to the Glacier des Bossons. To reach the Glacier you take a chair lift which seats 2 people so Stu & Tom travelled together and I went with Izzy. To be honest I did not enjoy this chairlift at all – I think the fact that you are in the open air made me worry I’d fall out!

From the top of the chair lift it is a short 10 minute walk for views over the Glacier.

Luge Rides

Before we headed home for pool time we thought we’d take the kids to Chamonix Leisure Park and let them have a luge ride (our passes meant if you bought one luge ride you got one free)

Tom and Izzy absolutely loved it – can’t remember how many luge rides we ended up buying for them but they had such a good time.

Plan Joran Gondola

The following morning we left quite early to take the Plan Joran gondola up the mountain. It was very quiet and we did a short alpine walk before deciding to return to Plan Praz as we had really enjoyed watching the paragliders the previous day.

As it was Stu’s last day before he had to return to the UK we wanted to walk into Chamonix so he had not yet visited.
