New Jersey, USA – Asbury Park Beach

After President Trump announced he was closing the American borders to Europe (excluding the UK) I decided that it was necessary to go and rescue Tom and Izzy who were at school in England – just in case he extended the rules to the UK.

Trump made his announcement at 9pm Wednesday evening, by 10pm I was booked onto the 7.30am flight from JFK to Heathrow leaving Stuart with the challenge of getting the 3 of us onto a return flight. I landed in London at 8pm Thursday evening, drove 100 miles to Cheltenham and spent the night. I collected the kids first thing Friday morning, drove back to Heathrow and luckily Stu had managed to get us on an evening flight back to JFK. The flight was absolutely packed with American citizens trying to return to the States and we arrived at JFK close to midnight. Good job I rescued the kids as 2 days later the border was closed to the UK as well!

Our journey back to America

After a very chilled out Saturday we decided on Sunday that we needed to explore some of the Jersey Shore and headed to Asbury Park for a couple of hours.

We parked up behind the old carousel building over looking Wesley Lake and went for a wander along the boardwalks. We walked through the old entertainment complex and towards some of the shops but they were mostly closed as it was out of season. It seemed like it would be a pretty cool place to visit in summer!

We then headed onto the beach for some play time. The water was freezing but it was a beautiful sandy beach.
