San Francisco, California – Golden Gate Visitor Centre and the Palace of Fine Arts

It was our final full day of our holiday so we began by setting off to the Golden Gate Bridge Visitor Centre. We had been here before a few years ago so knew we would have lovely views of the bridge and there is lots of information about it’s history.

We then drove 5 minutes down the road to the Palace of Fine Arts. As it was a Saturday the roads were really quiet. The Palace is a structure which was built in 1915 and is situated on a lagoon. We walked around the water taking photos of all the flowers and we also saw lots of wildlife including turtles.

We then drove to Presidio for a short walk before heading down the coast to visit the Sutro Baths. The Sutro Baths were built in 1894 and at the time it was the worlds largest indoor swimming pool complex. All that remains now are some concrete ruins.

We were able to walk along the concrete paths – although Stu did not enjoy this due to the 1 meter drop either side – it didn’t bother me or the kids! We then played on the beach for a while before heading back to the hotel.

It was our final morning in San Francisco and we had booked our hotel for the night as our flight wasn’t until 7pm and we wanted to be able to go out for the morning then chill in the afternoon and get changed before heading to the airport.

We didn’t want to go back into the city so we headed back to the coast and visited Gray Whale Cove Beach. We parked at the top of the beach and had to walk down an old wooded staircase to reach the beach – it wasn’t the nicest of walks. However, the beach was lovely and very quiet. We didn’t stay long as we knew we had to get packed and get to the airport and Tom & Izzy wanted to spend some more time at the hotel pool.
