Johnston Canyon, Banff, Canada – a Rainy Morning Hike

It was a bit of a wet and miserable morning so we decided to head over to Johnston Canyon for a walk to see the waterfall. It was only 40 minutes from our apartment and we needed to drive along the Bow Valley Parkway where lots of wildlife is often spotted. As we drove there was a huge queue of cars all pulled over and we realised there was a deer in the woods – we decided to keep going!

Arriving at Johnston Canyon

We set off on our hike which was on a raised paved path following the river. We noticed that everyone we passed seemed really miserable and guessed it was because of the weather – although it really didn’t bother us!

When we reached the lower falls viewing area there was a huge queue of people so we joined the queue – not really knowing what to expect. When it was our turn – probably about 20 minutes later – we entered a little cave area and had a lovely view of the falls. Everyone was really respectful and gave groups their time on the viewing platform.

We then hiked to the upper falls and took lots of really good photos. We really enjoyed the canyon.

For the afternoon we headed into Banff – although we didn’t want to spend time in the town we thought it was important to visit. We began by finding food as we were hungry and opted for a subway! We then walked to the river and found a loop which took us to the Banff sign where we took some photos.

We headed back to our apartment where Stu & Izzy went out for a run and then we relaxed for the evening.
