On our previous visit to Iceland we had visited the Blue Lagoon so this time we wanted to try the Sky Lagoon. We hadn’t planned on booking tickets as wanted to wait and see what the weather was doing but a week before our arrival the volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsular started erupting again and closed the Blue Lagoon. I quickly booked tickets for the Sky Lagoon and it was a good job as it became fully booked very quickly.
After having three days exploring outside in the cold we were looking forward to a morning at the Sky Lagoon. It was a 90 minute drive away from Hella so were up quite early and had another stunning sunrise!

We arrived at the Sky Lagoon and I had bought the VIP tickets which gave us access to the private changing rooms etc. The changing rooms were beautiful – really clean and very quiet.

Arriving at the Sky Lagoon and inside the changing rooms
When we entered the lagoon due to the fact the air was so cold and the water hot – everywhere was really misty. This meant that despite the fact it was very busy you couldn’t actually see anyone! We made our way to the edge of the lagoon which looked out over the sea and we could see little icebergs floating around.

Inside the Sky Lagoon
As we had upgraded our tickets we were able to do the seven step ritual. This firstly involved enjoying the warm lagoon and then we could do a cold plunge pool. Stu, Tom and Izzy took part in that – I put my feet in and it was far too cold! We then entered the sauna which had massive glass windows overlooking the sea. We entered a cold mist room and were given a salt scrub to use. It was all really good fun.
We returned to the lagoon where we ordered drinks from the bar and just enjoyed the rest of the morning.

Enjoying the Sky Lagoon
After a few hours we were ready to leave so headed into Reykjavik for lunch. As we were quite late lots of places were full so we ventured to the Hard Rock Cafe. The menu was slightly different to what we were used to (there was an Icelandic burger for example) but we really enjoyed our food.

We did a quick walk around Reykjavik before heading home for the evening.
