It was our final full day in Lanzarote and the sun was shining so we decided to have a beach day. We found a beautiful beach to visit on the south of the island – Playa de Papagayo. However, on route Stu wanted to visit the slot canyons that he had seen on the internet.
Las Grietas
We had seen pictures of Las Grietas and they looked like the slot canyons we had visited at Antelope Canyon in Arizona. They had been created when the volcanic plates cracked. We pulled up on the side of the road (there were no road signs), walked along the roadside and then used an underground tunnel to cross under the road. We walked up a very short trail and then we arrived at the canyons.
They were not over a large area and were quite small but very impressive! There was only one other family there when we arrived so we were able to take lots of pictures without being interrupted.

We then headed to the beach. To reach the beach it was quite a long drive along a very bumpy gravel track but then there was a massive carpark. We hiked down to a small sandy beach – without many people on it and went for a paddle in the water. It was a lovely way to end our holiday in Lanzarote!
