Lanzarote – Arrival and exploring Puerto del Carmen.

We took an afternoon flight out of London Gatwick which was due to arrive in Lanzarote early Saturday evening. Unfortunately our flight was delayed so whilst we were queuing at passport control at Lanzarote airport I was busily googling supermarkets and their opening hours as we had not eaten and we did not want to arrive at our AirBnb with no food! Luckily there was a supermarket across the road from the airport and we had a good hour or so before it closed. There were quite a few families in the queue who were getting angry as they were staying at all inclusive resorts and realised that they would have missed their evening meal.

We left the airport, collected our hire car and did a massive supermarket shop. We then followed the directions to our AirBnb which was 20 minutes away in the hills near Teguise. When we arrived (which was close to 10pm) it was pitch black and we could not figure out which villa was ours. It took us ages to find the key – but we eventually were able to let ourselves in and I put our frozen pizzas straight in the oven for our tea!

The villa was beautiful. There were three bedrooms, a huge kitchen and living area and a stunning pool outside.

The following morning we were able to see the villa in daylight!

Our villa in day light – no wonder we couldn’t find it as it was hiding behind a wall and electric gates!

We wanted to have quite a chill day after our day of travelling so we drove into Puerto Del Carmen – one of the larger towns in Lanzarote. I had visited many years ago when I was 18 but didn’t really remember anything about it. We parked up near the Old Town Harbor and went for a walk along the seafront.

We didn’t stay for long as nothing was really open. We did a quick drive down the coast to Puerto Calero before heading back to our villa to play in the pool for the rest of the day!

Pool time!
