Cornwall, England

Day 1 – Travel To Cornwall

I had booked a cabin for the week next to the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre. Cornwall can be quite expensive during school holidays but as building work was happening on the site – we got a really good deal.

Day 2 – Lands End, Chapel Carn Brea and Lizard Point

Our first stop of the day was Lands End as we wanted to do a bit of coastal walking and the scenery is stunning. We walked through the shopping complex (which we didn’t really like) and saw the Lands End sign (which you have to pay to take your photo with it)

Arriving at Lands End

We then walked the coastal footpath towards Sennen Cove – although didn’t go all the way.

Blue sky and sea

We then drove 10 minutes to Chapel Carn Brea to climb the hill. It wasn’t a long walk but there were lovely views of the sea and a trig point!

The summit at Chapel Carn Brea

As it was such a beautiful day we then carried on along the coast to Lizard Point. We hadn’t visited for a few years but the views are always spectacular – especially if the sun is shining. Someone had their camera set up to photograph sea birds and they let Tom and Izzy look through the lens.

Scenery at Lizard Point

We went for a short walk to see the lighthouse and had to navigate through a field of cows.

Day 3 – Fistral Beach & Bedruthan

Fistral beach was only 15 minutes from our holiday home so we were able to arrive early before it got busy. It wasn’t very warm so we didn’t paddle in the water but we walked along the headland towards Newquay and played on the rocks.

We then headed north along the coast to Bedruthan. We had visited the previous year but it was really misty so we wanted to go back. Unfortunately the tide was in so we couldn’t go down to the beach. We headed back home and visited the Birds of Prey Centre as we had free entry as our property was there. We were able to watch the flying display.

Day 4 – Camel Trail

Every time we visit Cornwall we cycle the Camel Trail and as normal we set off in grey cloud and returned in sunshine 5 hours later. We stopped at the Camel Trail Tea Garden on the route back for tea and hot chocolates.

Day 5 – St Michael’s Mount, Pendeen Lighthouse and Boat Cove

St Michael’s Mount is an island you can walk to at low tide. When we arrived the sea was in so we had to take a boat.

St Michael’s Mount

It was the first time we had visited so we climbed up the hill and explored the castle – it was a good castle.

Waiting to return to the mainland having found a geo-cache

We then headed over to Pendeen Lighthouse where we found a very quiet little beach (Boat Cove) and we spent ages playing in the waves.

Day 6 – Tintagel Castle

It was another sunny day so we began by visiting Tintagel Castle. We parked in the village and then walked down the hill to the beach which has a waterfall on it! Tom and Izzy found a rock and spent ages seeing who was brave enough to stand on it as the waves were coming in!

Tintagel Beach

We then climbed to the castle where the view along the coast is stunning and saw the statue of Merlin.

Day 7 Kynance Cove and Watergate Bay

We wanted to have a beach day so we headed to Kynance Cove where we had a little bay all to ourselves and Tom and Izzy spent ages playing in the sea.

We headed home for tea and then as it was such a gorgeous evening we drove to Watergate Bay for the sunset and basically had the whole beach to ourselves.

Day 8 – Travel home via Crantock Beach

Despite the fact we had to head home – we decided to spend a few more hours on the beach and visited Crantock. It was the hottest day of the week so Tom and Izzy were able to play in the sea again.
