After spending a few days in Los Angeles it was time to head to Vegas
Day 5 – Travel to Vegas
We set off quite early as Stu wanted to drive part of the way on Route 66 and we had found some interesting places to stop.

The first place we visited was Elmers Bottle Tree Ranch where we spent 30 minutes wandering around the bottle trees.

We then carried along Route 66 to Barstow where we visited the Route 66 museum. It was only a little museum but had loads of interesting memorabilia and vintage cars to look at.

We then returned to the interstate and had a final stop at Seven Magic Mountains. When we arrived we were shocked by the heat – it was over 40 degrees!

We were staying in an AirBnb about a 15 minute drive from the main strip so we wanted to go check in and drop our bags off before heading out for the evening.
We began by walking around Caesars Palace and watching their fountain show. We also walked up to the Bellagio to watch their fountains. Tom & Izzy had ice-creams before we returned home for the night.

Day 6 – Red Rock Canyon
We were keen not to spend all our time in the city so decided to visit Red Rock Canyon State Park for the morning. It was far too hot to do any hiking trails but there was a loop we could drive with lots of stopping points so we could get out of the car, do very short walks and take lots of photos.

A very hot morning at Red Rock
We then drove back into Vegas where we queued to have our photo taken with the Vegas sign, bought more ice-creams and had a look around the Venetian.
The next morning we were moving to the Grand Canyon but we had to return to Vegas in a week before traveling to San Francisco. We had booked to stay at the Hilton for the night but decided to change our booking and stay at the Venetian to get the ‘Vegas Strip’ experience.
